Review: Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Nostromo Crew (Dallas, Kane, Lambert) ReAction Figures

Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Nostromo Crew (Dallas, Kane, Lambert) Action Figure
Owing much of its design aesthetic to the original Kenner Star Wars and Alien lines, Super7's New York Comic Con exclusive Nostromo Crew (Dallas, Kane, Lambert) further fleshes out a very interesting, glacially paced line of releases. The ship crew has been growing, but still isn't complete - this set gives us our very first Lambert (Veronica Cartwright) figure in this format, with another Dallas (#2) and another Kane (#4). These figures were teased - a very Kenner move - on the Alien Egg Chamber Playset Box and (of memory serves) at San Diego Comic-Con a couple of years ago, so actually getting these figures is a nifty thing in and of itself. All that's left is ship crew versions of Lambert, Jonesey, Parker, and Brett. I think that'd be sufficient.

Review: Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Kane (with Facehugger) ReAction Figure

Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Kane (with Facehugger) Action FigureTaking a page from modern toys, Kane (with Facehugger) gives us a reason to buy two of the same guy instead of one guy with variant heads or features. The arms and legs are the same as the Chestburster version, but this one isn't "dead" when you remove the alien mask accessory. He's just preggers.

Review: Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Kane (with Chestburster) ReAction Figure

Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Kane (with Chestburster) Action FigureAfter two pretty cool waves, it seems that the ReAction Alien line is in a holding pattern. At least, we haven't seen the other space suit figures and have yet to get a Harry Dean Stanton. Now we've got three versions of this character, as Kane (with Chestburster) is arguably the entire reason this movie happens. As is typical for modern horror movies, he's not careful and gets pregnant. No wait, that's not it. Well, yes it is - and this figure is sort of a beautiful spoiler become flesh.

Review: Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Ripley (Spacesuit) ReAction Figure

Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Ripley (Spacesuit) Action FigureThe ReAction Alien line is a little weird. We've got three Kanes, two monsters, and our heroine has only two releases. The second is this Ripley (Spacesuit) figure, which is basically the first Kane in new colors and Ripley's head - now molded in flesh color. Her helmet is new, missing the flashlight on top.

Review: Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Alien (with Metallic Flesh)

Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Alien (with Metallic Flesh) Action FigureIf you bought the original version then you know what to expect out of the Alien (with Metallic Flesh) creature. The mold is more or less the same, except now it has a completely clear colorless dome, a very nice metallic black skin, and a wonderful white skull paint job that looks a lot like the original 1979 Kenner giant figure. It has the same sliding tongue, and much like the previous release it doesn't glow in the dark.

Review: Super7 x Funko Alien Egg Chamber Action Playset

Super7 x Funko Alien Egg Chamber Action PlaysetWe've been doing some talking about "gag figures" lately, and this is sort of a "gag playset." The joke of the Alien Egg Chamber is that a little girl and a little boy are playing with a breeding ground for murderous parasites and seem to be having a great time - and that it looks like something that was a cheap toy in 1979 which is in fact a very expensive toy in 2014/2015. The first release was a heavy resin and sold on-site at Comic-Con last year, the market for which softened quickly and the $100 super-limited item is (at press time) about $120-$130 on eBay. Not being able to get in line at the show, I pre-ordered online (there were credit card problems) during the show, which got me a black box and a plastic base. I would say this is a piece for vintage toy fetishists only, and it's a real curiosity.

Super7 Alien Egg Chamber Action Playset Arriving Now

If you ordered the Super7 Alien Egg Chamber Action Playset, it might be at your house right now.  The black box version was available for pre-order last July and this one is plastic with a cardboard backdrop.  A full review is coming next week, but for now enjoy this notification that I have it and you don't.

Alien Playset: Open Beyond SDCC

If you can live with black packaging, good news!  Super7 decided against being evil toy-denying tyrants and opened their $100, 250-piece playset up for an unlimited run in a black box.  It could be resin - or plastic, if the orders are there.  Me, I hope it'll be plastic.

Super7 SDCC ReAction Figure Exclusives Announced

http://sdccblog.com/2014/07/super7-sdcc-2014-exclusives/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=super7-sdcc-2014-exclusives
A hand-cast resin Alien Egg Chamber Playset is the centerpiece of a number of very low-run, high-dollar ReAction figures being sold by Super7 at Comic-Con in San Diego this year.  At 250 pieces, give up.  Just give up.   Unfortunately the ridiculous "we have to make these rare collectibles" mentality has just claimed my enthusiasm for another toy line... on the bright side?  I'm going to be un-ordering some of the regular product now. No price was listed.

But enough about my blinding white-hot toy fan rage... what else are they doing?

This link says to expect a crated-up Pulp Fiction Gimp, some new sculpt and new deco Alien figures blind boxed in eggs, and these are all $25 a whack.   Interesting ideas, but what are the Alien figures?  Nobody knows yet.

Additional exclusives include their own original vinyl figure designs in typically low Super7 runs.  Huzzah and kudos for curing everyone of being a completist on this line before it even really got started, that takes some doing.

Also, Funko has additional exclusives to announce - but what?  They're still revealing them, so stay tuned!

Super7 Teases More Alien ReAction at SDCC

http://blog.super7store.com/2014/06/26/super7-at-sdcc-2/What's in the box? Nobody knows!  Super7 (not Funko) teased 3 buyable things - which will probably sell out in the first 20 minutes at the show.  This post teases some sort of egg-shaped thing, the box to the left (a playset?), and a totally blacked-out mystery box.

Seeing as Super7's exclusives so far have been a clear grey Alien as well as prototype blue Alien and Kane figures, it would stand to reason new deco could be a likely candidate for these sets - maybe even test shots of the remaining figures, or test shots for next year's new molds for Alien.  Who knows? Let's hope they make a bunch because I'll be sad if I miss them!

Review: Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Ash

Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Ash Action FigureWhile not tops on my list of preferred characters, Ash makes for a pretty good figure. As a driving force for the movie's malevolent feel, Ian Holm's character is the perfect fodder for term papers everywhere. Not only does the character place duty above safety, but he works as a metaphor for the film's criticizing of itself - at one point he attacks Ripley with a rolled-up pornographic magazine, literally trying to cram the role of a subjugated woman down the throat of a major step forward for the roles of women in film, particularly genre stuff. Few movies to grace the pages of Starlog have a star without a Y chromosome, so someone smarter and better than I am at this no doubt has crafted some wonderful piece on Alien as a change to a brighter future for women in sci-fi, although, arguably, this brighter future never actually arrived. (See: Slave Leia, Carol Marcus, Megan Fox in Transformers movies. And arguably the shots at the end of Alien too.) But I digress, and I am not an expert in the area of gender roles in film in the slightest plus I could probably go on about this for pages.

Review: Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Kane in Nostromo Space Suit

Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Kane in Nostromo Space Suit Action FigureWhen I first saw it in Action Figure Digest, Kane in Nostromo Space Suit stood out as being overly memorable. If memory serves the identity of the character was called into question (i.e., who was in the suit?) but I do distinctly remember their writing that it looked more interesting from the back than from the front. This isn't a stretch. The Alien space suits are wonderfully distinctive works of art, looking like an old diving bell while retaining some rather fanciful armor-like elements and various protrusions.

Review: Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction The Alien

Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction The Alien Action FigureEver since I was aware of The Alien creature, I wanted a figure of it. Seeing the jumbo Kenner figure at collectible shows for very high prices meant that wasn't going to happen for quite some time. I didn't get one until Kenner's Aliens line in the 1990s, and when I saw this Star Wars-adjacent figure in Tomart's Action Figure Digest #23 I was a little bummed that it didn't get made. Given the nature of an alien phallus monster that mouth-rapes its victims and destroys them from the inside-out, the decision to not produce toys made good sense - but it also makes sense that it's here today, boasting action features - one of which does not work worth a damn.

Review: Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Dallas Action Figure

Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Dallas Action FigureI actually laughed when I popped Dallas out of his cardback, due to my shock when I saw the back of the figure's jacket read "Nostromo" on it. This was a real surprise detail, and one that likely would not have been on the final production figure had he been produced by Kenner in 1979 as planned. If you ever wanted a Tom Skerrit toy, your ship has come in. It's a small ship, but it's a ship all the same.

Review: Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Ripley Action Figure

Super7 x Funko Alien ReAction Ripley Action FigureTo say that this was a long-awaited item is nothing if not an understatement. Fans of Alien were simultaneously elated and depressed when Ripley was revealed in the 1990s within the pages of Tomart's Action Figure Digest magazine. The prototype photos gave fans a glimpse into the cash machine that was space toys inside Kenner in 1979, and the clear desire to expand upon what Star Wars had delivered. The few figures we've seen from this line were put on hold, and today some of us actually have recreations of actual, unmade 1970s Kenner prototype action figures. The sculpting style is very similar to many of the early figures from The Empire Strikes Back, with quilting, the usual flat facial detail, and in the case of some figures you'll notice the flesh overspray from the hands bleeding over to the arms.

Super7's SDCC Alien ReAction Figure Preorders Shipped - Mystery Figure Too!

They're here!  The blue carded Super7 Alien figures that you pre-ordered via the Early Bird Kit are shipping now and mine showed up today.  The bonus sixth figure is a translucent grey Alien.  It has silver highlights on his dome.  Neither figure has glow-in-the-dark elements, or at least mine don't glow.  The shipment also included 6 Alien figure stands which at first glance are identical to the ones from Comic-Con this year.

I literally just got these - and started this blog - minutes ago, so apologies for the slapdashness of everything.

The blue carded ones are no longer available, but you can order the black carded figures as a set at the links below at Entertainment Earth.  I should note my black carded set came with the hang holes punched out, while the blue carded set arrived unpunched.
